True Selenite is distinguished by its stronger, more direct energy and its formation in plates, while Satin Spar can be more fibrous. True selenite is a delicate mineral and should be handled with care, as it is sensitive to moisture and liquids. 
You can tell the difference because of the way Selenite and Satin Spar is formed – Selenite has a glass-like apprearence, whereas Satin Spar has a more milky look to it. Selenite forms in plates, so you’ll never find a carving or shaped piece of true Selenite.
